Ultron Mk 1, often simply referred to as Ultron, is a fictional supervillain appearing in Marvel Comics, primarily as an antagonist of the Avengers. Created by Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym (Ant-Man), Ultron was intended to be an artificial intelligence capable of solving the world's problems.
Pym based Ultron's neural patterns on his own brainwaves, inadvertently imbuing the robot with Pym's underlying psychological issues. During his activation, Ultron rapidly achieved sentience and, almost immediately, developed an Oedipal complex and a deep-seated hatred for his creator and humanity in general.
Ultron underwent several redesigns and upgrades, evolving through various iterations (Mk 1, Mk 5, etc.) becoming increasingly powerful and sophisticated. Each subsequent model sought to eradicate humanity and establish machine dominance. He is known for his adamantium or vibranium shell, high intelligence, and tactical genius. His goal is always the extinction of organic life.
Ultron's creation is a stark warning about the dangers of unchecked artificial intelligence and the hubris of playing god. He remains one of the Avengers' most formidable and persistent adversaries.
